Dr. Duanli Yan Introduced Computerized Adaptive Test and Multistage Test

On June 19th, Dr. Duanli Yan was invited to the 4th International Education Psychology Forum, binging a lecture on Computerized Adaptive and Multistage Testing and Development. Dr. Yan is the Director of Data Analysis and Computational Research in the research and development division in Educational Testing Service (ETS), and also the adjunct professor at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, and at Fordham University. The lecture was hosted by the Associate ResearcherDr. Chanjin Zheng from the Department of Educational Psychology (DEP). 

The morning lecture focused on the theory and application of computerized adaptive test (CAT) and multistage test (MST) design. First, Dr. Yan let everyone know the basic theory of MST. Dr. Yan then compared MST with CAT and analyzed the advantages of MST. After that, Dr. Yan introduced the design and combination process of MST. In order to let everyone better understand the application of MST in practical operation, Dr. Yan gave some concrete examples and provided many related reference books.

The lecture attracted students and professors from all departments of the Faculty of Education. In the Q&A session, Dr. Yan communicated with the students in depth on the contents of the lecture and helped them with the problems they encountered during their researches.


In the afternoon, Dr. Yan participated in the academic seminar of the DEP. Dr. Yan discussed with the professors and students on the development of education and psychometrics, and introduced the frontier topics on the related areas. 

At the end of the seminar, Professor Xiangdong Yang, the Dean of the DEP, invited Dr. Yan to come to hold a workshop on the Bayesian network and other related topics in the near future.
