The First Forum of Educational Psychology was Successfully Held

On April 24th, the first Forum of Educational Psychology, organized by the Department of Educational Psychology (DEP), was successfully held in 118 of Wenke ancillary Building. The theme of this forum is Evaluating and Promoting Student Learning: Insights From Multiple Perspectives. Professor Richard Anderson of the University of Illinois, Professor Mimi Bong of Korea University, Professor Matthias Ziegler of Humboldt University, Germany, and Professor Herbert Hoijtink of the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands, gave wonderful lectures to teachers and students. The forum was hosted by Associate Professor Yi Jiang of DEP.

Professor Xiangdong Yang, the Dean of DEP, gave an opening speech for this forum. Professor Yang talked about the original intention and future prospects of t DEP. Subsequently, the forum officially began. Four well-known professors from the United States, South Korea, Germany and the Netherlands made four speeches on education and psychology for teachers and students from the university.

In the morning, Professor Richard Anderson, the Honorary Professor of Education and Psychology at the University of Illinois, Director of the Reading Research Center, former President of the American Society for Educational Research, and former President of the American Reading Association, presented the speech “Children's Engagement during Collaborative Learning and Direct Instruction”. Professor Mimi Bong, the Dearn of the Department of Educational Psychology at Korea University, and the Director of the Institute of Brain Motivation, gave a speech titled “Understanding Students’ Achievement Goals”.

     

In the afternoon, Professor Matthias Ziegler, the chair Professor of Psychological Assessment at Humboldt University in Berlin, Chief Editor of the European Journal of Psychological Assessment, and current Chairman of the European Association for Psychological Assessment, gave the speech about “The Role of Personality on Academic Performance and Life Long Learning”; Another speech entitled “A Tutorial on Hypothesis Evaluation Using the Bayes Factor” was brought by Prof. Herbert Hoijtink, the Dean of the Department of Methodology and Statistics at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands, gave a speech entitled “The Bayesian Factor-Based Hypothesis Test”.

     

After the forum, the four professors and the graduate students conducted a face-to-face coaching session. The students raised the confusions they encountered in their study and practice, such as how to evoke the motivation of students in learning, how to turn learning into games, whether personality can change, how Bayes estimates missing values, etc. Lively discussion. The students and the professors have a heated discussion.

  

The Forum of Educational Psychology is an academic event organized by the Department of Educational Psychology. The forum will be held once a year. Internationally renowned scholars in the field of educational psychology will be invited to visit East China Normal University to give speeches to teachers, students and researchers. The forum aims to introduce international voices in the field of educational psychology, broaden your international horizons and become a bridge connecting China and the international academic community.
