Welcoming New Students with Heart: A Successful Orientation for the 2025 Graduate Cohort of the Department of Educational Psychology

As autumn brings cool breezes and new knowledge arrives, the Department of Educational Psychology embarks on a new journey with its students. Another academic year begins, and East China Normal University’s Department of Educational Psychology once again welcomes new faces full of aspirations. With passion and determination, they have traveled far and wide to start a new chapter of their lives here. On September 12 and 19, 2025, the department successfully held a series of events including new student registration and the freshman orientation meeting.

New Student Registration

On September 12, warmly greeted by faculty members and senior students, 14 master’s students and 3 doctoral students completed their registration procedures at Room 105 of the Liberal Arts Building and received exclusive freshman gift packs. Their smiling faces were captured on camera, etching warm memories into the big family of the Department of Educational Psychology.

Freshman Orientation Meeting

On the morning of September 19, the 2025 Freshman Orientation Meeting & Supervisor-Student Meeting was successfully held at Room 801 of the Tian Jiabing Education College. All faculty members of the department attended the event, engaging in face-to-face communication with the 2025 cohort and spending a delightful and heartwarming morning together.

Address by Professor Yang Xiangdong, Head of Department

Professor Yang Xiangdong, Head of the Department of Educational Psychology, delivered an inspiring speech that benefited all students. He noted that graduate studies differ significantly from undergraduate education, urging students to make a mindset shift, cultivate self-development and self-planning awareness, and achieve personal growth under the guidance of their supervisors. He also emphasized the importance of diligent learning and rigorous research training, which not only contribute to academic achievements but also enhance adaptability in an ever-changing era.

Speech by Associate Head Professor Jiang Yi

Associate Head Professor Jiang Yi provided a detailed introduction to the department’s curriculum structure and development directions, offering guidance on course selection and personalized training plan design. She also explained the supervisor dual-selection system, helping students better complete their applications and choose their preferred supervisors.

Speech by Teacher Gu Xin, Secretary of the Faculty-Student Party Branch

Teacher Gu Xin, Secretary of the Faculty-Student Party Branch of the Department of Educational Psychology, elaborated on the department’s party and league building as well as student affairs, covering the composition of the party branch, organized activities, and recommended candidate quotas for party membership. She expressed care and support for students’ mental health and wished them a fulfilling graduate life.

Self-Introductions by Faculty and Students

To facilitate the smooth progress of the supervisor dual-selection process, each faculty member introduced their research experience and academic fields, while new students briefly shared their academic backgrounds, research interests, and personal hobbies. In a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, mutual understanding was deepened, laying a solid foundation for subsequent two-way selection.

Ice-Breaking Activities

Organized by senior students, new and returning students participated in fun ice-breaking games. Snacks, lively performances, and the hilarious “Bluff Master” card game filled the venue with  laughter, bringing students closer together.


Class Committee Election

To ensure effective class management, student services, and a positive collective atmosphere, a new class committee was elected at the end of the orientation. Students stepped forward enthusiastically to deliver campaign speeches, sincerely expressing their enthusiasm and vision for class work and demonstrating a strong sense of service, responsibility, and initiative. Following a voting process, the 2025 Class Committee of the Department of Educational Psychology was officially formed. Congratulations to the following students:
