Social Service | The First Advanced Training Course on Mental Health for Primary and Secondary School Homeroom Teachers by ECNU’s Department of Educational Psychology Successfully Concluded

From March 26 to March 29, the first Advanced Training Course on Mental Health for Primary and Secondary School Homeroom Teachers, hosted by the Department of Educational Psychology of East China Normal University (ECNU), was held smoothly. Nearly 150 teachers from all over the country gathered at ECNU to learn the latest educational strategies and management methods through curriculum training and on-site visits, aiming to improve their scientific education capacity and professional work literacy.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Yang Xiangdong, Director of the Department of Educational Psychology, introduced the basic overview of the department and the important significance of mental health to all participating teachers, and wished them fruitful gains from the five-day course.

Expert Team Lectures


During the training, the expert team shared cutting-edge theoretical knowledge on topics including homeroom teachers’ class management norms, key points of home-school co-education, psychological crisis identification, emotional intelligence improvement, and the stimulation of students’ potential and learning motivation.

  • Teacher Chen Mo started from the requirements for homeroom teachers from different perspectives, explaining ways and methods for participating teachers to enhance their own capabilities.

  • Teacher Zhang Zhenyu shared how to "be the master of emotions" from the perspectives of emotion management and stress management, and discussed with the teachers how to use class meetings to stimulate students’ potential.

  • Teacher Jiang Yi focused on learning motivation, using a large number of examples to introduce what learning motivation is and how to improve students’ learning motivation to the participating teachers.

The participating teachers actively engaged in classroom discussions and interacted with experts, deepening their understanding of knowledge through exchanges.

On-Site Research and Visits

In addition to classroom learning, the participating teachers also conducted on-site research at two schools: Jiading Qiliang Middle School and Shanghai Fushan Foreign Language Primary School, and listened to experience sharing from frontline primary and secondary school teachers in Shanghai.


  • Principal Lu Zhengfang of Jiading Qiliang Middle School shared the application of positive student behavior guidance in class management.

  • Teacher Zhang Fanli from Shanghai Fushan Foreign Language Primary School delivered an open psychology lesson titled "Communicate Properly", demonstrating how to carry out mental health education for primary school students.

Moreover, the expert team organized post-class seminars and exchange meetings, allowing timely review of learning content, sharing of experiences and insights, and discussion of practical approaches with the participating teachers, creating a lively on-site atmosphere.

Finally, the participating teachers conducted learning summaries and gain-sharing in groups, and all expressed that they had benefited greatly from the course.

With rich content and diverse forms, this advanced training course combined classroom teaching with on-site research, enabling participating teachers to more proficiently master knowledge related to students’ mental health development and learn a wealth of scientific theories and practical skills for being excellent homeroom teachers. It is believed that after this activity, these caring and knowledgeable outstanding teachers will be more dedicated in their future homeroom work, caring for students and reassuring parents!
